1967 - It all started with a little black
Shetland pony mare named "Midget".
Ron thought it would be nice to get the kids a
pony. We had a bit of land and Ron had grown up with horses on the family farm.
I, on the other hand, was not too sure and wondered if it really was a good idea.(real meaning being- I was from "DOWN STATE" and was rather afraid of anything bigger than a dog! But didn't want to say so)
Well, we got the pony. And, as it turned out, she was in foal! Raising that foal was my turning point.
I was "HOOKED" on equines from then on. We HAD to keep things EQUAL, as we had 3 children and only 2 ponies, so we knew we needed a BIGGER place with more land. So, we moved to Groton and named our "farm" Step'n Hi Stables. It wasn't long before I felt secure enough, with those little Shetland ponies, that I was sure it was time to move up in the world and find a horse that I could ride. Within the next year we bought 2 horses. Cricket, a black, quarterhorse mare, for Ron and "King", a big, red,(very smart)grade gelding, for me. As time went by(and I finally convinced "King" that I was "getting smarter") we had alot of fun with the horses and ponies, trail riding, pony carts and such.
Somewhere, in that time period, I read an article about Arabian horses and was so impressed that I wanted to see one for myself.
Well......the rest is history and here we are today, 30 YEARS LATER.....It has been truly, a great journey with some truly GREAT horses. We have wonderful memories of times shared with friends and family.
Presently we are keeping a little slower pace, but we are not altogether out of the race.......
Come meet my "equine" love in life....SH Nitro's Edge and his 2 sons, On The Edge and SH Cutting Edge.
